Sleeping Golden Retriever Christmas Sweatshirt: Embroidered Golden Puppy Napping in a Santa Hat

Not every holiday dog is making trouble: this sleeping golden retriever Christmas sweatshirt shows a golden puppy fast asleep with its Santa hat sliding off. It is a ready-made design, embroidered to order across the chest, and the soft fur lines are real stitches you can feel rather than a printed image.

What is on the sleeping golden retriever Christmas sweatshirt?

The puppy lies stretched out sideways across the center of the chest, chin resting on its front paws and eyes shut in two happy, curved lines. Look closer and you will find:

• The coat: golden cream thread with fine fur lines, and darker red-brown shading on the tail, the ears and the little paw pads.
• The face: a relaxed smile, a black nose and a floppy ear spilling over one paw.
• The hat: a red Santa hat with a white brim and pom-pom, tipped sideways as if it slipped while the puppy dozed off.

Why is the golden asleep instead of playing?

Golden retrievers are retrievers through and through: busy, happy puppies that chase, carry and greet everyone, and then fall asleep wherever they stop. This design catches the moment after the wrapping paper has been shredded and every guest has been greeted, when the puppy finally crashes on the rug with the hat still on. It is a gentler take on a holiday dog than the usual mischief scenes, which is why it reads as a sleeping golden retriever sweatshirt you can keep wearing after Christmas Day. Owners of grown goldens will recognize the pose too; the nap never really stops being a puppy habit.

Which color should you choose?

Dark and deep colors make the golden coat glow and show every fur line. Light colors give a softer, gentler look, and on tones close to the golden thread, the red Santa hat does most of the work. On colors near the red hat, the hat blends a little while the puppy stays clear. Each color you choose above brings up a matching photo of the puppy.

Who is this golden retriever puppy Christmas sweatshirt for?

It is a natural gift for a golden retriever mom or dad, or for a family bringing home a new golden this year; as a golden retriever puppy Christmas sweatshirt it marks that first holiday together. It is also a relaxed golden retriever Christmas crewneck for cozy days by the tree. For warmer weather, the same sleeping golden puppy comes on our sleeping golden retriever Christmas shirt, a short-sleeve T-shirt; the options above are for the crewneck sweatshirt. Prefer a livelier golden? On the golden retriever Christmas sweatshirt, a wide-awake golden in a Santa hat sits up holding a light string in its mouth.

Can you add a name to the sleeve?

Sure. Your golden’s name is a natural choice, and initials work too. Either goes on one sleeve, with an icon only if you want one, in the font and thread color you choose from the charts in the photos. The default is White, the clearest option on dark sweatshirts; go with Black or a dark shade for the light ones.

Ordering, sizing and care

Each sweatshirt is made to order and ships from the USA, and the estimated delivery date is shown on this page. Expect a free design proof by email before we stitch, with as many edits as you need. To receive it by Christmas Day, order by December 8 in the U.S. or by November 23 outside the U.S. Size exchanges are not possible for made-to-order pieces, so check the size guide on this page. Turn it inside out, wash in cold water and never iron directly on the embroidery.

Frequently asked questions

Can the golden look like my own dog?

No, the napping puppy is a fixed design. For your own golden’s face embroidered from a photo, use the custom dog Christmas sweatshirt.

Is it only for golden retriever puppies?

No. The dog is drawn as a puppy, but the pose fits any golden that naps through the holidays, young or grey-muzzled. More golden designs are in our golden retriever sweatshirts, and more holiday breeds are in our dog Christmas sweatshirts.

Is the puppy printed or embroidered?

Embroidered. The fine fur lines are individual stitches, which is what gives the coat its soft, layered look up close.
