Golden Retriever Christmas Lights Sweatshirt: Embroidered Golden in a Santa Hat

Our golden retriever Christmas lights sweatshirt shows a golden sitting politely in a red Santa hat, with a string of Christmas lights hanging from its mouth. The design is ready-made, so there is no photo to send: pick the color and size and we stitch it to order. Every hair, bulb and pom-pom is real embroidery, not a print.

What is on the golden retriever Christmas lights sweatshirt?

The golden sits in the middle of the chest, upright on its haunches, front paws together and tail curled out to one side. Its coat is built from layered gold, honey and cream stitches with rust shading, and its dark eyes and black nose look straight at you.

• The hat: red with a white fur brim, the pom-pom flopping over one ear.
• The lights: a green cord held in the mouth that drapes down the chest and between the front legs, with red, yellow, green and blue bulbs.
• The attitude: calm and a little proud, as if the dog has been caught and sees no reason to apologize.

Why is the golden carrying the Christmas lights?

Golden retrievers were bred to fetch birds for hunters and carry them gently in their mouths, and many still greet you with whatever they can find: a shoe, a sock, a toy. At Christmas the nearest thing to grab is often the tree lights. This design catches that moment. The golden is not chewing the strand or tangled in it; it holds it like a prize it fully intends to bring to you. Golden owners tend to recognize the look straight away, which is why the scene works without a single word. The hat also makes it a golden retriever Santa hat sweatshirt, so it reads as Christmas from across the room before anyone spots the bulbs.

Which color should you choose?

Choose a color in the options above and the product photos change to show the design on it. Darker and deeper shades give the gold coat and the colored bulbs a sharp edge, and the red hat glows on them. On light neutrals, or on warm tones close to the golden coat, the fur sits softer against the fabric and the hat and lights do more of the work.

Who is this golden sweatshirt for?

It suits a golden retriever mom or dad, a family that lines up its goldens for the holiday card, or a friend whose dog greets every guest with something in its mouth. It also lands well in a Secret Santa exchange when you know the recipient’s dog by name. For a matching pair, there is no hoodie, but there is a T-shirt: the same Santa hat golden with its Christmas lights comes on our golden retriever Christmas lights shirt, a short-sleeve T-shirt.

Can you add a name to the sleeve?

Yes. Sleeve embroidery is optional: type a dog’s name, initials or a short word, then choose an icon, a font, a thread color and the left or right sleeve. White thread comes preselected because it reads clearly on dark sweatshirts; switch to Black or another dark thread for light colors.

Ordering, sizing and care

We embroider every sweatshirt to order and ship it from the USA, and the estimated delivery date is on this page. Before stitching starts we email a free design proof, and you can ask for unlimited edits. To receive it by Christmas Day, order by December 8 in the U.S. or by November 23 outside the U.S. Made-to-order pieces cannot be exchanged for another size, so check the size guide on this page first. Wash it inside out in cold water and never iron on the embroidery. More holiday goldens are in our golden retriever Christmas sweatshirts.

Frequently asked questions

Can the dog look like my own golden?

Not this one. It is a ready-made design, and we stitch it as shown. To put your own dog’s face from a photo in a holiday hat, choose the custom dog Christmas sweatshirt.

Is this a Christmas sweater for dogs?

No. It is a fleece crewneck sweatshirt made for people, not a knitted sweater and not dog clothing. The only one wearing a Santa hat is the golden on the chest.

Are there other golden retriever designs?

Yes. The embroidered golden retriever sweatshirt has a small golden with a tennis ball for everyday wear. Browse more in our golden retriever sweatshirts and dog Christmas sweatshirts.
